Maruti sales are down by 47 percent, sale of MMG Motor are also down
Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), one of the country's largest carmaker, said on Wednesday that its sales fell by 47 percent to 83,792 units in March 2020. At the same time, the sale of MMG Motor was 1,518 units in March. MSI said in a statement that the company had sold 1,58,076 units in March last year. It was reported that its domestic sales declined by 46.4 percent to 79,080 units in March 2020 as compared to 1,47,613 units in March 2019.
Small car sales fell five percent.
Sales of small cars like Alto and WagonR during this period were 15,988 units, compared to 16,826 units in the same month last year. Thus the sale of small cars declined by five percent. Sales in the compact segment with models such as Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, and Dzire declined by 50.9 percent to 40,519 units. Similarly, utility vehicle sales, including the Vitara Brezza, S-Cross, and Ertiga, declined by 53.4 percent to 11,904 units. The company said that during this period there was a 55 percent decrease in exports.MG Motor India said on Wednesday that its retail sales stood at 1,518 units in March 2020, including 116 ZS EVs and 1,402 Hector SUVs.
The company said in a statement, "Both MG Hector and MG ZS EV have made their mark in the Indian car market. MG Motor continues to serve its customers despite supply chain disruptions globally."
