Top 10 EVs Sold In India (Q2 2023) - Tata Sweeps Podium As Comet Soars
Revolutionizing the Indian automotive landscape, the surge in electric vehicle interest reached unprecedented heights during the second quarter. Witnessing a momentous milestone, battery EV sales soared, with an impressive 26,794 units finding their way to new homes. Among the contenders, Tata Motors emerged as the undisputed leader, claiming all three top positions on the podium with their remarkable array of value-for-money electric cars.
Leading the charge was the Tata Tiago EV hatchback, reigning supreme at the sales charts. A staggering 10,695 units of this electric marvel were sold, constituting a remarkable 40 per cent of India's EV sales in Q2 of 2023. Following closely was the Tata Nexon EV, a compact and dynamic electric SUV that found 5,072 new homes, capturing 19 per cent of the passenger EV sales market. The Tata Nexon EV is offered in two variants - EV and EV Max, the latter boasting enhanced power and extended range.
Claiming the third spot was the Tata Tigor EV, the electric sedan that charmed its way into the hearts of 3,257 buyers, accounting for 12 per cent of passenger electric vehicle sales in the same quarter. Noteworthy as well, Mahindra's XUV400 secured the fourth place, contributing eight per cent of the total passenger EV sales, with 2,234 units finding their rightful owners during Q2.
Making an electrifying debut at fifth place was MG's petite wonder, the Comet EV. This delightful two-door, four-seater electric hatchback won over 1,914 buyers, constituting more than 7 per cent of passenger EV sales. MG once again graced the list, this time with the ZS EV claiming the sixth spot, holding 6.5 per cent of the market share, as 1,747 units found new homes during the second quarter of 2023.
Completing the top ten were the Citroen eC3 (576 units), Hyundai Ioniq 5 (449 units), BYD Atto 3 (412 units), and the Kia EV6 (279 units). Despite the reduction in FAME-II subsidies by the government, the second quarter of 2023 witnessed an exceptional bloom in passenger EV sales. While Tata's continued dominance was anticipated, the remarkable ascent of the spirited MG Comet to the top 5 has undoubtedly become a reason for celebration and optimism in India's electric vehicle revolution.
