Tata introduced the Tiago EV in late 2022, offering 2 powertrain choices. The medium-range Tiago EV comes with a 19.2kWh battery pack, while the long-range variant features a 24kWh battery. The 19.2kWh battery delivers a range of 250km on a single charge, while the 24kWh battery extends this to a claimed 315km according to the Modified Indian Test Cycle (MIDC). The medium-range Tiago EV produces 61PS of power and 110Nm of torque, while the long-range variant kicks out 75PS and 114Nm of torque. Prices for the Tiago EV begin at Rs. 8.70 lakh for the medium-range base model and go up to Rs. 12.04 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-tier long-range version, which includes a 7.2kW home charger.

2. MG Comet EV

MG's Comet EV features a 17.3kWh battery pack that powers a rear-mounted electric motor. This motor generates 42PS of power and 110Nm of torque. The Comet EV offers an estimated 230km of range on a single charge. Regarding charging, it takes around 7 hours to charge from 0% to 100% using a 3.3kW AC charger. However, the Comet EV doesn't support fast charging.
MG offers the Comet EV in 3 variants – Pace, Play, and Plush.  The Comet EV is priced between Rs. 7.98 lakh and Rs. 9.98 lakh (ex-showroom).

3. Tata Tigor EV

Tata unveiled the Tigor EV in 2021 as their second mass-market EV. While it is priced above Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom), it's a solid option for those making the switch from fossil-fuel cars to electric vehicles. Initially, the Tigor EV cost Rs. 12 lakh, but prices have since increased to Rs. 12.50 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base XE variant. Powering the Tigor EV is a 26kWh battery pack. Its single front-mounted motor generates 74.7PS of power and 170Nm of torque, providing a claimed range of 315km.

Like the Tigor EV, the Citroen eC3 is priced above Rs. 10.0 lakh (ex-showroom). However, it is currently India's most affordable all-electric hatchback with SUV styling, coming in 2 variants costing Rs. 11.50 lakh and Rs. 12.43 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Citroen eC3 features a 29.2kWh air-cooled battery pack, and its front-mounted electric motor produces 57PS of power and 143Nm of torque. Charging times for the eC3 are 10.5 hours for a full charge using a 3.3kW AC home charger, and a DC fast charger takes just 57 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.

5. Tata Nexon EV 2023

If you're in the market for an SUV, the 2023 Tata Nexon EV is a compelling choice, with prices ranging from Rs. 14.74 lakh to Rs. 19.94 lakh (ex-showroom). This versatile SUV is available with 2 battery options: the 30kWh and the 40.5kWh, offering impressive ranges of 325km and 465km, respectively. The 30kWh version delivers 129PS of power and 245Nm of torque, with an efficiency rating of 10.33kmpu, while the 40.5kWh version produces 145PS of power and 215Nm of torque, with an efficiency rating of 11.58kmpu.

6. Mahindra XUV400 EV

The Mahindra XUV400 is a rival to the new Nexon EV with a starting price of Rs. 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It offers a range of 375 kilometres on a single charge, thanks to its 34.5kWh battery. The XUV400's power output stands at 150PS with 310Nm of torque, earning an efficiency rating of 10.87kmpu. This SUV is significantly longer than the Nexon EV. A long-range variant is also available, equipped with a 39.4kWh battery, boasting a range of 456km, and priced at Rs. 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

7. MG ZS EV

MG introduced the ZS EV facelift in March 2022. This version comes with a 50.3kWh battery and a single electric motor setup producing 176PS of power and 280Nm of torque. The updated ZS EV claims a range of 461km and a real-world range of around 300km. It is priced between Rs. 22.88 lakh and Rs. 26.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

8. Hyundai Kona EV

The Hyundai Kona was the first mass-market EV available in India. Equipped with a 39.2kWh battery, the Kona offers an impressive claimed range of 452km on a single charge. The Kona EV's electric motor generates 136PS and 395Nm of torque. In terms of pricing, it falls in the range of Rs. 23.84 lakh to Rs. 24.0 lakh (ex-showroom). Note that Hyundai is expected to launch a Kona EV facelift in India later this year.

BYD made its debut in India with the E6 electric MPV. The E6 is a 5-seater MPV initially available only for commercial buyers. It utilises a 71.1kWh battery, delivering 95PS of power and 180Nm of torque. BYD claims an impressive city range of 520km with the E6, making it an appealing choice for those prioritising efficiency. The E6 is priced at Rs. 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom).

It features a single motor mounted on the front axle producing 204PS and 310Nm of torque. Charging via a 7.4kW AC charger takes approximately 10 hours to fully charge. The ex-showroom price of the Atto 3 is Rs. 34.0 lakh.

11. Hyundai Ioniq 5

Hyundai introduced the Ioniq 5 EV at the 2023 Auto Expo in India. The Ioniq 5 boasts a 72.6kWh battery pack, offering an ARAI-certified range of 631km on a single charge. Its single motor configuration produces 217PS and 350Nm of torque. A 350kW DC charger can recharge the Ioniq 5 from 10% to 80% in roughly 18 minutes. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV is priced at Rs. 45.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

12. Mini Cooper SE

Priced at Rs. 56.90 lakh (ex-showroom), it offers a range of around 418km, making it suitable for both urban commutes and weekend adventures. The XC40 Recharge combines Volvo's signature safety features and Scandinavian design with zero-emission driving. Its electric powertrain delivers instant torque and responsive acceleration. 14. Volvo C40 Recharge

The Volvo C40 Recharge comes with a 78kWh battery pack that produces 408PS of power and 660Nm of torque. The C40 Recharge offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 530km on a single charge whereas the locally-tested ICAT range stands at 683km. Just like the XC40 Recharge, the C40 Recharge is locally assembled at the company’s manufacturing plant in Hoskote, near Bengaluru. After the inaugural offer ended, the C40 Recharge witnessed a slight price hike. The current price of the C40 Recharge is Rs 62.95 lakh (ex-showroom). 

15. Kia EV6

The Kia EV6 electric SUV is currently the flagship product from Kia in India. It is price between Rs. 60.95 lakh and Rs. 65.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The Kia EV6 sits on Hyundai-Kia’s e-GMP global modular platform, which also underpins the Hyundai Ioniq 5. 

The India-spec Kia EV6 comes with a 77.4kWh battery pack and 2 drivetrain options — rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive. The Kia EV6 offers an ARAI-certified range of 708km on a single charge. The rear-wheel-drive EV6 produces 229PS of power and 350Nm of torque whereas the all-wheel-drive version puts out 325PS of power and 605Nm of torque.

16. BMW iX1

The BMW iX1 was launched in India in September 2023. It is priced at Rs. 66.90 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable electric vehicle from BMW in the country. Unlike the India-spec X1 that is only offered with a 2WD drivetrain, the iX1 gets all-wheel-drive as standard thanks to its twin electric motor setup. The combined power and torque output of the twin electric motors, which are mounted at each axle, stand at 313PS and 494Nm, respectively. The iX1 can do a 0-100kmph sprint in 5.6 seconds. 

The electric motors draw power from a 64.7kWh battery pack that sits under the floor of the SUV. The iX1 offers a WLTP-certified range of 440km on a single charge. Since the ARAI testing standards are comparatively lenient compared to WLTP cycle, the ARAI-certified range of the iX1 could cross the 600km range mark. The BMW iX1 is capable of charging its batteries from 0-80% in just 29 minutes with the help of a 130kW DC fast charger. The more-accessible 11kW AC wallbox charger, on the other hand, takes 6.3 hours for a 0-100 percent charge.
