Tata Altroz Racer Spotted Testing In Ooty, TN

Tata Altroz Racer Spotted Testing In Ooty, TN

We get that it is not enough to confirm if it actually had the more powerful 1.2L turbo petrol engine. We even peeked through the windows and saw the 6-speed gearbox. So, we can confirm that this camouflage Altroz is indeed the Racer but we couldn’t provide a satisfactory image to support our claim. Thus, you’ll have to trust us on this.

Along with the Altroz Racer, we also had a couple more Altroz cars with red MH14 plates keeping the Racer company. The grey one had nothing special but the black one had cables running from the hood to the cabin through the mirror mounting point. It’s unclear what they are testing with this Altroz Dark.

Tata Altroz Racer: Dead Or Alive!

We recently said that the Altroz Racer may be dead as back in January 2023, Tata promised to bring it “soon”. Now that we are well past the definition of “soon” by any stretch, we should assume that the Altroz Racer may not happen. Moreover, the period between Diwali and new year usually sees little to no new vehicle launch action. When we have a 1-year gap between confirming the imminent launch of a vehicle, we should assume that they have backed out of the commitment. This new spotting throws a monkey wrench in our understanding of the matter.

Tata New Car Launch Plans (Tentative)

How, when and if the Altroz Racer will materialise, remain the big questions as of right now. Tata are also testing the Curvv/Frest, which is likely to go on sale sometime in the first half of 2024. Soon, Tata will bring the electric versions of the Curvv/Frest and that should keep them busy for a good while. Then we have the Safari petrol and Harrier petrol followed by the Harrier EV and possibly the Safari EV. So, Tata have their hands full for the 2024 calendar year. For 2025, we can expect Tata to bring major updates for the Tiago and Tigor and minor updates for the Altroz along with the Sierra EV. I just don’t see the room for Tata to plug in the Altroz Racer unless it becomes the de-facto turbo petrol engine of the Altroz with a manual and a DCT automatic.
