Considering the puny dimensions, limited off-road abilities and bare-adequate bottom end torque (compared to Thar), it wouldn’t take much effort to kill the Jimny. A 1.5-litre petrol engine is one of the possible powertrains for the Land Hopper for markets like India. We should expect the India-spec version to get a hybrid powertrain as well. It’s also unclear if it will get a body on frame or a unibody frame. Regardless, to really kill something like the Jimny or Thar, it would need a rugged body on frame. Moreover, a monocoque frame would not go well with a car named Land Hopper. Toyota are likely to showcase the Land Hopper at the Tokyo auto show in the coming weeks. We should expect it to go on sale in India sometime in 2025 as Toyota already have a few more cars in the pipeline for the Indian market like the Urban Cruiser Taisor.
