Upcoming Mahindra XUV700 Electric Spied

Mahindra XUV.e8 Spied

While the XUV.e8 test mule was wrapped in camouflage, it is evident that it looks similar to the prototype that was showcased earlier this year. Up front, the test mule was spotted with features such as a full-width LED DRL with horizontal elements at the corners of the front bumper, vertically stacked LED projector headlamps with ice cube shaped LED fog lamps, and an enclosed front grille. The side profile and the rear are likely to be similar to the XUV700 as the test mule features the same silhouette and LED tail lamps as the ICE-powered SUV. The production-spec XUV.e8 is expected to offer aero wheels and bronze accents all around.

The latest spy shots suggest the production-spec XUV.e8 could feature 3 screens inside the cabin – one for the driver, one for infotainment and one for the front passenger. The spy shots also reveal a 2-spoke steering wheel, conventional gear lever with a round dial to toggle between the various drive modes.

The XUV.e8 or XUV700 electric is expected to be based on Mahindra’s new INGLO platform. It is likely to be powered by BYD’s prismatic blade cell batteries, with capacities ranging from 60kWh to 80kWh depending on the variant. Reports suggest the XUV.e8 could be offered with the option of a single electric motor at the rear axle and dual electric motors at either axle for all-wheel drive capabilities. The XUV.e8 is likely to offer a a power output ranging between 227PS to 345PS, a real-world range of over 400km on a single charge, and should be capable of hitting a top speed of 200kmph.

When launched in 2024, the XUV.e8 will compete with the upcoming Harrier EV and Safari EV as well as take on the Hyundai Creta EV, which is currently under development. The XUV.e8 is likely to be priced above Rs. 21 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, the XUV.e9 shouldn’t be far behind as it is nothing but a coupe version of the XUV.e8. Expect similar performance and range from the XUV.e9, albeit with a slightly higher price tag.
