Coronavirus lockdown: Uber launches emergency service in 5 cities

Accessing medical facilities has not been less of a challenge to citizens due to the coronavirus lockdown for the past few weeks. There is no public transport available, which means that if you do not have your own car, you cannot leave your house.

Now in at least 5 major cities across the country, Uber has come up with a solution with a new 'Essential' feature on its app. This facility can be used to travel to hospitals and pharmacies for your medical needs.

This facility has been started in Bengaluru, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Nashik, and Hyderabad. This has been done with the full consent of the authorities and the journey can be done only to the required places.

The ride heling company has also said that riders using this facility will have to carry documents to validate the purpose of their journey. Uber says that drivers have been specially trained for this task and curfew passes have been issued to ensure movement.

Uber is also telling the riders about the basic steps which can help in preventing the spread of the virus. This is being done by sending in-app messages and emails. To take advantage of this service, you have to pay money to the company, the amount of which will be given at the time of booking.

However, the company also says that it is also committed to providing rides and food to healthcare workers and senior people around the world and for this 1 crore free rides are being given. To help its driver-partners in India, the company has already invested Rs. Has announced a relief of 25 crores. At the same time, she is requesting her customers to come forward and contribute to this.
