Mercedes-Benz India is going to launch many vehicles in the year 2020, but the lockdown due to the Coronavirus has disrupted this task. Even after this, the company is exploring the possibilities, and after the lockdown opens, it is preparing itself for the competition. Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed that all the vehicles planned for this year will be launched.
The company says that when the situation becomes standard in the country, then the first product from Mercedes-Benz will be the new generation GLS. The company sold the first lot of the previous generation model in October 2019, and since then, Mercedes' most expensive SUV has been missing from the market. Mercedes-Benz will fully import this SUV.
Santosh Iyer, vice president, marketing and sales, Mercedes-Benz India Ltd, said, "I think GLS has not been in the market for a long time, which is more than 4 months, so there is a lot of interest among customers. We have kits available in Pune. GLS will be the first product to be launched in India as soon as we start working again. The SUV will be launched by the end of the second quarter, depending on the lockdown opening. At the moment, I cannot declare a date, but this is our priority. The first few products that we launched at the start of the business include the GLS SUV."
The new generation Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV will get more space, more comfort, and more luxury. The SUV has also been updated in features with cosmetic changes, and the new GLS will be made available in the 6-seater option for the first time. It has two independent and extremely comfortable seats in the middle row.
The SUV is also provided with the latest generation Mbux infotainment system, apart from this the car has also grown in size and comes with a 60mm long wheelbase, being 77mm long and 22mm wide.
The 400D variant of the new generation GLS will be launched in India with a 6-cylinder diesel engine that generates 330 bhp power and 700 Nm peak torque. The SUV will also be launched in the powerful V8 petrol variants, information which will be made available at the time of the launch. Mercedes-Benz will also offer Airmatic air suspension in the new SUV with a 4 Matic all-wheel-drive system that will typically come with the Adaptive Dumping System Plus.
