Electric car sales fall, e-scooters sell more
The sales report of the Indian electric vehicle industry for the financial year 19-20 has shown good growth in sales due to the strong performance of two-wheelers.
Unlike the rest of the Indian automobile industry, electric vehicles have seen positive growth in sales at the end of the last financial year. In FY 19-20, 1,56,000 electric cars were sold in India, of which 97% were only 2-wheelers. The remaining 4,000 trains had 3,400 cars and the remaining 600 buses.
In comparison to this, 1,30,000 electric vehicles were sold in the last financial year, which means that there has been a good growth of 20% this year. In the fiscal year 18-19, only 130,000 electric vehicles were sold. These included 1,26,000 two-wheelers, 3,600 cars, and about 400 buses.
This growth of 20% is due mainly to two-wheelers. Of these, 97% were electric scooters, and the remaining 3% were motorcycles and electric bicycles. But the decline in car sales was seen as only 3,400 cars could be sold as compared to 3,600 units in the last financial year. The fall in the bulk of e-cars this year is being attributed to the decrease in this number.
Sohinder Gill, director-general of manufacturers of the Society of Electric Vehicles, said, "While the EV industry is certainly suffering the brunt of coronavirus like any other automotive business, clear skies and clean air are among the worst polluting cities." It is being viewed. It is telling customers that if they move towards e-mobility, they can breathe easily and stay healthy. "
According to SMEV, the sale of electric cars in the premium segment in the second half of the year is a positive sign of higher volumes of e-cars in FY 20-21. The e-taxi sector is also moving a bit, though the range of e-cars and the lack of adequate charging spots are hindering the segment's growth. Many state governments were talking about buying electric buses but are not actually buying them.
